How To Find Your Links In Google

by JIM HOFFMAN
As you may know, part of getting ranked high on Google or many other search engines depends on who links to you.

This short article will explain how to find out who is linking to your website, using simple search techniques.

The basic way is to open up Google.com and type

link:yourdomain.com

This will show who links to your home page, including any of your internal pages. However, this isn't always the best link search, since Google actually only will include websites that link to you if that site has a Google page Rank of 4 or above.

Another way to look is to type

inurl:yourdomain.com

This should show a bit more accurate results. If you look at the results though, you will probrably see a bunch of your webpages as the link results. To stop this from happening, you can type.

inurl:yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com

OR

link:yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com

This should exclude your website from being included in the results.

Also, you can try using "yourdomain" as a search item which will show sites linking to you as well, make sure you include the "".

In addition, play around with these search tools. Include the www in your search and try it without the www as well.

These search tools also work great in other search engines. Like Yahoo, Altavista, Alltheweb and others. Keep in mind that each search engine has different particulars and some will give better or worse results.

You can also try to use this with domains that get top ranking for your search terms. If you do a link search on those sites, you can try and trade links or get a backlink from your competitors links. This will help you rank higher, since the links all wind up going to the same place.

Remember, search engine ranking is an ongoing effort and once you can obtain good ranking, it will increase your visits, targeted sales and your sites exposure. All Free.

If you want any help with these, drop me an email at jhoffman@inetgoodies.com

How to Analyze your Visitors to Improve your Web Site

by MICHAEL ROCK
This article is a detailed description on how to interpret your web hosting statistics software. Typically, the web hosting you have comes with its own web statistics program such as webalizer or awstats. There are also free traffic monitors such as servustats, web stats, and others. And for a nominal subscription of around $15-$35 a month you can get a more detailed analysis of your visitors with a paid program.

Why is it important to monitor your visitors?

You could gain a lot of traffic to your web site by simply looking at the number of visitors per month, but what do they do when they reach your site? Do they visit the pages you want? Do they leave shortly after arriving? What pages are they interested in? Etc. Armed with this important information you can tweak your web site to help achieve your goals. What good is it to have hundreds of visitors go to your site if all they do is leave right away or look at pages that are not important?

The Statistics Report:

Since most statistics software don't have the same options I will use my paid subscription I use and go over the details provided by it. You will find that the free stat reports are limited to the information that you have, and after reading this article it will also help you decide whether you want an upgraded version of the statistics report. So let's begin!

Traffic
Page Views
Page views are the number of times HTML pages are loaded in your visitors' browsers.

"Page views measure the whole pages that are displayed to a viewer and do not include the supporting image files. Every time a complete page displays, it counts as one page view, even when the visitor just refreshes the page, or leaves it for a second and then comes back."

"This determines whether your web site is interesting enough to look further into it and explore more pages."
Repeat Visits
Users who browsed your site more than once during the selected time period.

"In other words, these are all visits minus the first visits (or unique visitors) in the selected period. The percentage of repeat visits to all visits will give you a good picture of how appealing the content of your Web site is."

"Do you give your visitors a reason to return to your site? Is your site updated frequently with articles and content?"
Activity
By Time Zone
"This report shows you what hour of the day they visited your site according to their time zone."
By Local Time
"This report shows you what hour of the day they visited your site according to your time zone."
Day of the Week
"What day of the week they visited. Was it during a weekend or weekday? You can determine the best days to update your site or send out important information to your customers with this report."
Work/Leisure Time
"Do people view your web site during typical business hours or do they visit after they have gone home?"

"What type of people visit your web site can be determined from this. Should you concentrate on business people or not."
Navigation
Navigation Paths
A navigation path is a sequence of pages that the visitor viewed from the moment he/she enters the site to the moment he/she leaves.

"From the marketing view, it is important to know the most common paths your visitors follow to get to the landing pages (that is the pages where the target events take place such as ordering, file downloading, form filling and submission, etc.). You will learn which of the navigation paths are the most effective."

"The frequent exit patterns will show where your site is underperforming. You will see where to improve the content of your site to make your visitors' experience perfect."
Entry Pages
The page that a visitor goes to when first visiting your web site.

"By setting your links to go to specific pages of your web site you can determine which referral links are working and which are not."
Exit Pages
The page that a visitor leaves your web site from.

"Do your exit pages match your entry pages? If so, then see what you can do to fix your entry page to keep visitors on your site. Is it a navigation problem? Content not good enough?"
Pages Viewed After Home Page
"The success of your web site depends on how short the way from your home page to your target page is."

"This also helps uncover any navigation problems or lack of interest in your web site."
Site Stickiness
These are visits grouped by the time that visitors stay.

"It is a sign of how well a site's content captures the visitor's attention. Do they leave a few seconds after entering? Or are they thoroughly interested in what you have to say on your web site?"
Visitors
Unique Visitors
Another measure of Visitor activity that counts only the first action of a visitor in a selected period of time.

"This measures what a visitor does on the first visit only in a selected period of time. The software will grab specifically where they came from so you can tell the actions of one person visiting your site. In other words if you have three unique visitors visit your site ten times each instead of having a counter of 30 visitors you'll see 3 visitors and what pages they visited."

"The number of unique visitors versus page views is an important indication of site performance. If you have a high unique visitor count, but relatively low page view count, this is a sign of low site attractiveness to visitors, so you should rewrite the site content. On the other hand, if you have a low visitor count and very high page view count, this shows that your site is stimulating people, however it needs more promotion."
New Visitors
This is a brand-new visitor, arriving at your site for the first time.

New visitors are always unique, although they are not the same as unique visitors. The number of new visitors will always be smaller than the number of unique visitors, because a unique visitor is one arriving for the first time in the selected period (so the system may identify the visitor as unique in the current period but it also knows that he/she has been before). A new visitor is one on his first visit.

"This will tell you if your web site is attracting new customers."
Frequent Visitors
"This report tells you how many times a certain visitor visits your site. Do they only visit your web site once? A few times a day? Once a week? Several times a week?"

"This analysis is important to find out if people view your site as something to come back to and let you know if you need to make changes to keep people coming back."
Motivated Visitors
If two or more pages are browsed during a visit, this will be counted in the Motivated Visits report.

"The ratio of visits when more than one page is viewed to all visits is a good sign of your site's attractiveness."
New Visitors' Second Visits
"This report lets you know how many of the new visitors returned to your site. Not to be confused with repeat visitors, because this one monitors only the new ones."
Visit Frequency
The number of return visits all of your visitors take.

"Do the highest percentage of all of your visitors visit only once? 2-4 visits? 5-10 visits? Or as much as 300 visits?"
Referrers
The reports here show you where your visitors came from.
Bookmarked Pages and Direct Typing
"Do people bookmark your web site to visit later?"
Search Engines
"What search engine did they use?"
"What keyword did they type in?"
"Which keywords are the most popular? Adjust your web site to the popular keywords."
Referring Pages (Links)
"What other web sites did your visitors come from? Concentrate on the higher traffic links."
"Do they come from directories that pay off or not?"
Pages
Popular Pages
"What area of the site are people most interested in?"
Unpopular Pages
"Are these pages to fix or delete?"
Views Per Visit
"How many pages are viewed during their visit?"
Views Per First Visit
"How many pages do first time visitors view?"
Page Stickiness
"How long do they stay on different pages. Should you fix or delete the pages people don't spend much time on?"
Systems
Browsers and Browser Versions
"It is a good idea to see what a majority of your visitors view your web site in. What does your web site look like in their browser? Try it, you may be surprised to find out that some content is not readable or supported. Or it may make your web site look awful."
Operating Systems
"Are your visitors using Windows, Macintosh, Linux, or WebTV?"
Windows Versions
"Are your visitors up to date, or are they still using Windows 95?"
Screen Resolutions
"What screen resolution do people view your site on? If a majority of people use 800 x 600 pixels do they have to scroll right and left to read the content on your site?"
Color Palettes
"What capability does your visitors computer have? Should you concentrate more on using 'web safe colors' in your design?"
Cookie and Java Support
"Do you use these scripts on your web site? If your visitors have these turned off they may not be able to view important parts of your web site. If a strong number of people have this support turned off consider using other options."
Demographics
Countries
"What countries are your visitors from? Does this pose as a problem?"
Languages
"What language do they use? If you see a growing number of a foreign language, consider making your site bi-lingual."
Time Zones
"What time zone are they coming from?"

Until the next article, have a great day!

Search Engines & Web Directories

by PHILLIPE WU
The so called search box should be given a correct name “search engine” which can be further divided into keyword search engines and web directories. Web surfers can make use these two types of searching methods alternatively for better search results.

Search engines accumulated their data volume through spiders or robots that work among billions of websites and collect them back to the databases and index them into good order for future query by web surfers. Complicated algorithm will perform calculations and pick up right results according to keywords provided by web surfers. There are virtually countless websites for spiders to crawl. How spiders crawl these sites? They start crawling those sites that attract bigger volume, coming to the end through sophisticated internal links. And that is the reason why website should always be linked to high traffic site for optimum market exposure.

Search engine crawlers will crawl web pages periodically for updated contents. The newly added contents should be available to web surfers at the next database updates which normally take few days up to few months.

At the moment, there are two types of submissions are available: paid inclusion and pay for placement. Through paid inclusions, websites can be indexed into database efficiently including your newly added contents. However, your paid inclusion does not guarantee your rankings in search engines. The best advice would be having a perfectly optimized web page ready before any paid procedures.

Pay for placement will give you immediate ranking for any targeted keywords. The higher you bid the better your ranking will be. And pay per click system will let advertisers have more say as to how their advertising budget will be corrected allocated. Normally, these search engines have many affiliates to cover more advertising areas.

Unlike Search Engines send out spiders to crawl websites automatically, the web directories accumulate their database manually by human editors. The most important web directory is the Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.org) that compiles databases manually and indexed websites of extreme high quality and unique contents.

To submit urls to web directories, you must first make sure if the site you are going to submit has been indexed already. You can check up this by entering your website url in the search box. Then choose the category that best correspond to your products and services. After you get the proper category, submit your site by clicking the button of suggest a site or suggest url and follow the instructions. In the mean time, correct titles, descriptions, keyword meta etc should be well written. Promotional adjectives such the best and the most should be avoided.

Following strictly the rules listed would be our heart and soul suggestion to get your site listed successfully.

The Effective Use of Business Lead Databases

by HALSTATT PIRES
Business lead databases are an incredible resource for any business wanting to generate clients. Leads are the life source of almost every successful business. Without leads you have no customers and without customers you have no sales, no referrals, and definitely no income.

Business lead databases are essentially a huge resource of business leads. They are websites or companies that have a list of businesses categorized into industry sector. Decent business databases will be updated often and they will only contain opt-in leads to businesses that wish to be included.

Fresh Leads

Regularly updated lists mean you will always have up to date information. You won’t be clicking dead links to sites, you won’t be trying to contact people who have left the company or moved department and you won’t be contacting companies who are in a different industry to the type you are interested in.

Opt-In Leads

Opt-in leads mean that the business and contact details you are using are not only relevant but they are also willing recipients of your emails, letters or phone calls. With the increase of Spam and the prosecution of people and companies who partake in spamming individuals and companies it is in your best interest to make sure that you do not Spam.

Targeted Prospects

Specific leads from business databases will be categorized accurately dependant on geographic location, industry and any other specifications you may have. The increasing use of the Internet to run businesses means that geographic location isn’t as important anymore. You can sell your products or services to customers across the world but you may also want to send mail campaigns or paper flyers. You may be selling large heavy equipment or a service that can only be performed in person. In these cases you will only want to contact companies or people who are in a region close to your own.

Reputable business databases will offer all of this and much more. As you can imagine, keeping a database like this maintained and up to date will entail a lot of work. In order to do this effectively, they will more than likely charge a small fee to cover the ongoing work.

Find a Good Business Database and Stick With It

The Internet has a lot of available business databases and you should be careful to select one that has a large number of businesses included and keeps its records up to date and as accurate as possible. You shouldn’t just jump in with the cheapest one you can find or you may find that you wasted your money and you have to pay again for a better database.

Business databases are an invaluable resource for getting large amounts of leads in a very short period of time. They can save you months, even years, of trying to develop your own leads and every web site and small business should consider using one.

Paying for the use of business databases can either be as a one time payment allowing you full lifetime access or on a monthly basis, or even for each category of mailing list you require. There’s even a chance you could get some free leads for your money.

In short, business lead databases can be a great investment. Don't just jump in and buy the first lead list you find. Shop around, find a reputable company and the extra work and fees involved will likely be very worth the effort.

New marketing tool set to shake up local business advertising

by ROBIN RICHMOND
September sees the launch of a new online service, which enables interactive communication between businesses and the communities they serve. Called thebestof ( http://www.thebestof.co.uk ), this website is set to shake up the current directory marketplace and allow businesses to target their marketing spend more effectively. The site offers substantial benefits to both site visitors and to advertisers in terms of content, functionality and cost.

Set up by the same company that has built a network of more than 700 local community magazines over the past two years, there are currently 64 towns/geographical areas throughout the UK which are listed by thebestof website. A further 250 are planned over the next nine months. Each of these local sites, which one navigates to either from the homepage http://www.thebestof.co.uk or directly following a specific search engine search, is run by a committed and knowledgeable person, known as the ‘site owner’, living in their local community.

Founder and managing director Nigel Botterill comments: “More people than ever in the UK are using the web – and it’s only going to get bigger. People overwhelmingly prefer ‘local’ providers of goods and services but there is currently nowhere on the internet where people can get detailed information about local products and services in their area. Sure there are ‘listings’ but they give little more than a name, address and a phone number and people want more than that so that they can make an informed choice.”

Thebestof is very different. Firstly, each local site is run by committed and knowledgeable people from within the local community. These site owners follow our extremely high standards in approach, delivery, content and look-and-feel. Having a ‘nose to the ground’ in each area ensures the information on each site remains fresh, up-to-date and relevant to the community it serves.

Secondly, the information available about individual businesses is unprecedented. With up to 400 words of text, photographs, company logo’s, headlines and the unique ‘Talking Ads’ - where businesses can actually record their own message to the public – the package becomes a compelling business tool and takes web marketing to a new level.”

All of this is available to advertisers from only £10 a month.

This combination of comprehensive information, provided locally, at low-cost prices provides an effective marketing tool for local businesses and self-employed individuals, many of whom have not yet embraced the internet as part of their business. The site will be helpful to both residents wanting local information on the area where they live and to people from outside the area wanting information on a particular location.

Botterill continues: “We knew we were on to a winning formula in July, when over 60 individuals across the UK came on board to run one of thebestof.co.uk local sub-sites. This was before any marketing of the business had taken place. We will now rapidly roll-out coverage across the country over the next few months”

“We look forward to officially launching thebestof concept and to continuing the growth of our remarkable company which provides an unparalleled service to local communities across the UK, and to the businesses that operate within them.”

The Downtown San Francisco Marriott Hotel Wins Gold Key Award for 2005

Secaucus, NJ-Meeting & Conventions magazine recently announced the winners of its prestigious hotel meeting & convention Gold Key Award for 2005. This annual award is bestowed upon the world’s finest meeting and convention hotel properties.

The downtown San Francisco Marriott Luxury Hotel was nominated for this award of excellence by the readers of M&C, who based their votes on the overall professionalism and quality of this San Francisco hotel. This year, the readers honored 190 domestic and 20 international luxury hotels and resorts as Gold Key winners. Meeting and convention planners selected their winning hotel properties based on strict hotel service industry criteria including; quality of meeting room facilities and convention space, quality of hotel guest services, hotel staff attitude, banquet rooms, hotel restaurant food and beverage service, proficiency of handling hotel room reservations, availability of technical/support equipment and the range of hotel recreational facilities.

“The dedication to quality has always been a trademark of M & C’s readers who represent the highest level of meeting and convention planning/incentive professionals. The San Francisco Marriott Hotel has met these tough standards by providing outstanding hotel services,” said Bernard W. Schraer, Meeting & Conventions Group Publisher. “The entire M&C staff commends the downtown San Francisco Marriott Hotel for demonstrating the high qualities to earn the Gold Key distinction.”

Newbie in SEO,Read it

by SHANKEY JOSHI
These are some points which are very useful, who is newbie in SEO.These are some basic points in seo.

The domain name:-The domain name should show entairely your website. The hyphen can be use in the domain name in seo sense, this doesn't looks good but usful in SE ranking.

Webhosting companies and some other things:-- a) The site url is connected with static IP address not with dynamic address.Static IP address is related with only one site and dynamic IP address is given dynamicly to any site of the main. server.but around 98% sites have dynamic IP address. So try for static ip address. b)mod riwrite-:this tecqnic changes the dynamicly pages in html pages. this is done becaus search engins spiders skip to include the pages which has %,=,?,+ signs in the url of any page.so by converting them in html pages by mod rewrite the spiders list these dynamic(database driven) pages. c) For going on one page to another page if require to fillup a form.the second page is not listed by the SE spiders.becaus the SE spiders do not fill any forms and they skip those pages and afterward pages.so make a site map for that pages and write there about the information related to that. site map is imp according to seo.

selecting the keyword phrases:--selecting the keyword is an very very importrant thing in the SEO so you have to give so much time for that and never ignor that thing.keyword selection is basicly depends on the information in the site and in which he deals.never use very common kewords like date, automobiles, medical, chat etc.use some keywords which is differnt and have same meaning and think about u'r information u providing in site.think about that if u are looking for that information then what will u type in the google(search engine) for search. In common keywords u get very less ranking becaus there are lots of site with these keyword. do not make single word keyword make a phrase of less then 4 words.and put only 4 keyword phrase for one page.single word is useless and long phrase is uneffective so make a keyword phrase of max 3 words.for selecting the keyword we can use "http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/"

Meta Tags(Meta tags comes between the tags.):-- A. tag-: It is entirely depends on our site discription and page discription or the information store in it.we have to use our main keyword in this tag once. the title is not more then 60 characters or 7 words.it shows in our top navigation bar. B. meta keyword tag--:it showws as .the content is no more then 250 characters and one keyword is not use more then three times its just like an spaming or abusing in the sense of search engin. c. Discription tag-: In the discription tag we only give information for the particular page not of the whole site,it should be some discriptive and use our keyword phrases too.and that should be not more than 200 character long.

Keywords in heading:--Put the keywords in heading, this will increase our keyword density too. like
SEO help
same like this
. this also increase the size of the text too. the Search Engins concentrate on these headings and the ranking of the page is also increase if we increase the headings with our keyword phrases but in the limit. we can also increase the headings by using the heading in the same line of text.by using this
This will make a small heading with no space after it!

Use keyword in the text:--The spiders see the text and see how much time the keyword and keyword phrase are used in the text.the spider only see 80-100 lines on the page so use the text in that lines.if we use text at the end the spider can be skip it.thats why the testimoinals are use in the left bar which is in the begning of the page just in starting of the table. the text should be min 500words or more than this if possible.

Put keyword in the Alt tags:-- Alt tags are use for the images on the page.when we take the cursore on that image than after few seconds the text is shown.it is very littile thing for the spiders.but thses littile things are have much improtance such time,so we have to think about it too.this text is useful for blined b'cos they cant see the image but here the text by special software.and put the keyword phrases in the alt tag is good.

Anchor text:--The anchor text mens the text at the hyper link.the title in that is index by the spiders.so put the keywords in the title of anchor text.every small thing work in seo so concentrate on all of them . the anchor text is like that.. Submit

Some Neglected things:-- a) The heading tag is important by in the relation of Search Engins .They give them an higher treatment.like
(big headings),
(small heaings) etc. same as alt tags are also important for the search engins and for users too.alt tags in graphics are also have given higer treatment by the Search Engins.when any user change its browser settings in which the graphics are blocked at that time this alt tags are shown nly in the browser. so put the main keywords and keywords phrases in the alt and heading teags. b) Text is very important for Saerch Engins.SE gives it very high weight.so use it with your keywords and keyword phrases.but not put these keywrds many times b'cos it is treated as spam indexing.and the SE bar it from the search for life long. C) Alt tags are also use for buttons too and for the divider bar too. as in sign in button put the alt tag as "signin in the keyword phrase of the site."and so on.
